Daniel 1 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Daniel and his friends are taken far from home to a king's palace. Right away, they have to decide: will they still do things God's way, even here?

Today's Story

Daniel and his three friends were taken from their home to live and train in the palace of a faraway king. Everything was different here, and they were a long way from home.

The king ordered that the young men eat his special, rich royal food. But Daniel knew that some of it wouldn't honor God. So Daniel politely asked the guard, “Please, may we just eat vegetables and drink water for ten days? Then you can see how we look.”

The guard was nervous. “If you look worse than the others, the king will be angry at ME!” But he agreed to try it for ten days.

For ten days, Daniel and his friends ate only vegetables and drank only water. And at the end? They looked healthier and stronger than all the young men who ate the king's fancy food!

And God gave Daniel and his friends something even better: wisdom and understanding, more than anyone else in the whole palace. When the king talked with them, he couldn't find anyone as wise.

Daniel honored God in a small, everyday thing — what he ate — and God took good care of him.

  3. Daniel was far from home in a strange place, but he still did things God's way. When is it hard to do the right thing when you're away from home?
