The king has a dream that scares him so much he can't sleep — and he gives his wise men an impossible task. Only God can help Daniel now.
Today's Story
King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that troubled him so much he couldn't sleep. He called his wise men and demanded the impossible: “Tell me what I dreamed AND what it means — or else!” Nobody could do it. How could anyone know another person's dream?
Daniel heard about it. He and his three friends prayed and asked God for help and mercy. And that night, God showed Daniel the king's dream and what it meant. Daniel praised God: “Wisdom and power belong to God!”
Daniel went to the king. “No wise man can do what you ask,” he said. “But there is a God in heaven who knows every secret. He showed me your dream.
“You saw a giant statue — a head of gold, chest of silver, middle of bronze, legs of iron. Then a rock, cut out by no human hand, struck the statue and smashed it to pieces. And that rock grew into a huge mountain that filled the whole earth.”
“The statue is the kingdoms of the world, that come and go,” Daniel explained. “But the rock is God's kingdom — and God's kingdom will never be destroyed. It will last forever.”
The king was amazed. He said, “Your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings!” and he gave Daniel a high and honored place.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Daniel prayed first when he faced an impossible problem. What's something that feels impossible that you could pray about?
- The dream showed that kingdoms come and go, but God's kingdom lasts forever. What things in life come and go? What about God lasts forever?
- Daniel gave God ALL the credit. When something good happens because of God's help, how can we give Him the credit?
