This is the very last chapter of Moses' story. It is gentle and a little sad, but it is full of God's love.
Today's Story
Moses had led God's people for a very long time. Now he was old, and it was time for him to say goodbye.
God took Moses up to the top of a tall mountain. From way up high, Moses could see the whole beautiful land God had promised — green hills, sparkling water, and good places to live.
“Look,” God said kindly. “This is the land I promised long ago. You have seen it with your own eyes.” Moses had waited so many years for this moment, and there it was, spread out before him.
Then, up on that mountain, close to God, Moses died. God Himself took care of him. No one loved Moses better than God did.
All the people were sad. They cried for Moses, because they missed him very much. There had never been anyone quite like him — God had talked with Moses like a friend.
But God's plan kept going. A new leader named Joshua was ready and full of God's wisdom, because Moses had passed the job to him. The people would still go into the good land. God's promise did not end — it kept right on going.
A Big Word

Talk About It
- Have you ever had to say goodbye to someone you love? What did that feel like?
- God showed Moses the promised land and stayed close to him to the very end. How does it help to know God never leaves the people He loves?
- God kept His promise to bring the people into the good land, even after Moses was gone. What is a promise you are glad someone has kept for you?
