Long ago, a powerful king ruled a giant kingdom — and our story begins at his great big party.
Today's Story
Long ago, a king named Xerxes ruled a HUGE kingdom — 127 provinces, stretching from India all the way to Africa! He was one of the most powerful kings in the whole world.
One day, the king threw an enormous feast that lasted for days and days, to show off the riches and beauty of his kingdom. There were gardens, golden cups, and food for everyone.
The king's wife was Queen Vashti. During the feast, the king commanded her to come and let everyone admire her. But Vashti said no, she would not come. This upset and embarrassed the king in front of everyone.
The king's advisors said, “She should not be queen anymore.” So the throne beside the king sat empty, and he would need to find a new queen.
It looked like an ordinary royal problem. But God was about to do something amazing through it — He was making room for a brave young girl who would one day save her whole people. Even when we can't see it, God is at work behind the scenes!
