A kind man and his brave young cousin step into the story — and God begins to work His plan.
Today's Story
In the kingdom lived a kind Jewish man named Mordecai. He had a young cousin named Esther, whose parents had died, so Mordecai raised her like his own daughter. Esther was kind, wise, and lovely.
The king was searching for a new queen, and many young women were brought to the palace. Esther was one of them. Wherever Esther went, people liked her, because she was gracious and kind. Mordecai told Esther to keep something secret for now — that she was Jewish — and he watched over her, walking near the palace every day to make sure she was okay.
When the king met Esther, he loved her more than all the others. So he placed the royal crown on her head and made HER the new queen! A young Jewish orphan girl had become the queen of the greatest kingdom on earth!
Around that same time, Mordecai overheard two men secretly plotting to harm the king. He warned Esther, who told the king, and the king was saved. Mordecai's good deed was written down in the king's records — and it would matter a LOT later on.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Esther was an orphan, yet God made her a queen! How does it encourage you that God can use anyone for big things?
- God placed Esther in the palace for a reason she didn't know yet. Do you think God has placed YOU somewhere for a reason?
- Mordecai's good deed was written down and mattered later. Why is it good to do the right thing, even when no one seems to notice?
