A proud, unkind man rises to power and makes a wicked plan — but God is bigger than any plan.
Today's Story
The king had an important official named Haman. Haman was very proud and loved when everyone bowed down to him. The king even commanded everyone to bow to Haman.
But Mordecai would not bow down. As a man who worshiped God, Mordecai bowed only to the Lord, not to a proud man like Haman. Every day Mordecai stood tall and would not bow.
This made Haman furious! And when he found out Mordecai was Jewish, Haman became so full of hate that he made a wicked plan — not just against Mordecai, but against ALL the Jewish people in the kingdom. He tricked the king into signing a law to harm them, and he was sure his evil plan would work.
Things looked very scary for God's people. But Haman didn't know something important: God was watching over His people, and He had already placed brave Queen Esther in the palace. God is always bigger than the meanest plan.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Mordecai would only bow to God, not to proud Haman. When might we need to stand firm and do what's right, even if it's hard?
- Haman let his pride and anger lead to a wicked plan. Why are pride and hate so dangerous?
- Things looked scary, but God was watching over His people. How does it help to know God is bigger than any mean plan?
