Esther 4 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Esther is a queen with a secret and a scary choice. Her people are in danger — and she might be the only one who can help, if she's brave enough.

Today's Story

Esther was a young woman who had become the queen of a great kingdom. But she had a secret: she was one of God's people, and the king didn't know.

One day Esther's cousin Mordecai, who had raised her like a daughter, sent her terrible news. A wicked man named Haman had made a cruel plan to hurt all of God's people.

“Esther,” Mordecai begged, “you have to go to the king and ask him to save our people!”

But Esther was scared. “Nobody is allowed to go to the king unless he calls for them — not even me! If I just walk in, I could be in terrible trouble.”

Then Mordecai said something Esther never forgot: “Maybe — just maybe — God made you queen for exactly this moment. Who knows? Maybe you became queen for a time just like this.”

Esther took a deep breath. She decided to be brave. “Have all our people pray for me,” she said. “Then I'll go to the king, even though I'm scared.”

Esther chose courage — trusting that God had put her right where she was, for a reason.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Mordecai said maybe God made Esther queen “for such a time as this.” Has God ever put you in just the right place to help someone?
  2. Esther was scared but decided to be brave anyway. What's the difference between not being scared, and being brave even though you're scared?
  3. Esther asked everyone to pray before she did the hard thing. Who could you ask to pray for you when something is hard?
