Exodus 16 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God's people are hungry in the desert, and there's no store for miles. So God does something nobody has ever seen — He makes breakfast fall from the sky.

Today's Story

Out in the desert, the food ran low, and the people started to grumble. “We're hungry! At least in Egypt we had bread to eat!”

God heard them, and He wasn't angry. He said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you.”

The next morning, when the dew lifted, the ground was covered in thin white flakes, like frost. The people stared at it. “Manna?” they said — which means, “What is it?”

Moses smiled. “It's the bread God promised. Go ahead — gather just enough for today.” They tasted it. It was sweet, like honey crackers. Yum!

God said to gather only what they needed for that day. A few people tried to grab extra and hide it — but the extra went bad overnight. God wanted them to trust Him to send fresh bread every morning.

And He did. Every single morning, there it was again, all over the ground. God fed His people like that, fresh every day, for years and years.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. God sent fresh bread every single morning. What's something God gives you every day that's easy to forget to say thank You for?
  2. God told the people to gather just enough for today and trust Him for tomorrow. Why do you think it's hard to wait and trust instead of grabbing extra?
  3. The people grumbled when they were hungry. What's a better thing to do than grumble when something is hard — who could you talk to?
