Exodus 38 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

The workers build the big altar and the courtyard around God's tent — and the Bible even counts up all the gifts the people gave.

Today's Story

The workers kept building. They made the big bronze altar for the courtyard, where offerings would be given to God. They made a bronze basin for washing, and all the posts and curtains for the courtyard fence that marked off the special space.

Then something interesting happened: the Bible carefully counts up all the gold, silver, and bronze the people gave, keeping track of every bit. Why?

Because the leaders wanted to be completely honest. They showed everyone exactly how every gift was used. Nothing went missing; nothing was wasted. Everything went to God's house, just like it should.

Being honest with what people give — keeping good track and using it well — is part of doing God's work right. The leaders weren't just careful with the building. They were careful with the people's trust.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. The leaders kept honest track of every gift. Why is it important to be honest with things that belong to others?
  2. They used everything well, nothing wasted. How can we take good care of what we're given?
  3. Being trustworthy means people can count on you. Who is someone YOU can count on? How can you be that for others?
