Exodus 40 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Everything is finally ready. Moses sets up God's tent — and then the most wonderful thing of all happens: God comes.

Today's Story

The day finally came. Moses set up the tent, exactly as God had shown him. He put the ark in the Most Holy Place, set the table and the lampstand in their spots, lit the lamps, placed the golden altar, and hung the curtains. Piece by piece, everything God had planned came together — and Moses did it all just as the Lord commanded.

Then, when everything was ready and in its place… it happened.

A cloud came down and covered the tent. And the glory of the Lord — God's bright, beautiful presence — FILLED the tabernacle! It was so full of God's glory that Moses couldn't even go inside. God had come to live with His people, right in the middle of their camp, just as He promised.

From that day on, whenever the cloud lifted up from the tent, the people would pack up and follow it. Wherever the cloud settled, they would stop and stay. By day the cloud, by night a fire — God's presence was always there, leading them and living with them, all the way.

After all the plagues, the sea, the mountain, the rules, and the building — this was the goal all along: God, living with His people. And He still wants to live with us today.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. God's glory filled the tent — He came to live with His people! After everything, this was the goal. Why do you think God wanted so much to live with His people?
  2. The cloud led them: move when it moves, stay when it stays. How can we follow God's leading in our lives?
  3. God still wants to live close to us today. How does it feel to know the God of glory wants to be with YOU?
