Exodus 6 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Everything looks like it's falling apart. So God makes Moses a promise — actually, a whole string of promises — and signs them with His own name.

Today's Story

After everything went wrong, God spoke to Moses again. And He gave him promise after promise, like knots on a rope you can hold onto in the dark:

“I am the Lord. I will bring you out from under the heavy loads. I will free you from being slaves. I will rescue you. I will take you to be My own people. I will be your God. And I will bring you to the good land I promised long ago.”

Do you hear what God kept saying? I will. I will. I will. God was telling Moses: this rescue does not depend on how strong YOU are. It depends on how strong I AM. And I always keep My word.

Moses told all of this to the people. But they were so tired and so sad that they could barely listen. And honestly? Moses still felt like the wrong person for the job.

But here's the wonderful thing about God's promises: they don't depend on how we feel about them. God said “I will,” and that settled it. The rescue was coming, sure as sunrise.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. God made promise after promise that started with “I will.” Which of God's “I will” promises do you most need to hear today?
  2. The people were too tired and sad to believe the good news at first. When you're really tired or sad, what helps you remember God's promises?
  3. God said, “I will be your God, and you will be My people.” What do you think it means to belong to God?
