Exodus 9 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

The signs keep coming, and now God does something kind in the middle of them — He warns the people, so anyone who listens can be safe.

Today's Story

Pharaoh still would not let God's people go. So a sickness came over the animals in the fields, and then painful sores broke out. Even the magic men were too sore to stand. But Pharaoh's heart stayed hard.

Then God did something kind. Before the next sign, He sent a warning: “Tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm Egypt has ever seen. So bring your animals and your workers inside, where they'll be safe.”

And do you know what? Some of the Egyptians listened! They hurried their animals and their families indoors. But others just shrugged and left everything out in the open.

The next day, the sky went dark and the hail came crashing down — ice as big as stones, with thunder and lightning. It was the worst storm anyone had ever seen.

But in one place, it was perfectly calm: the land of Goshen, where God's people lived. Not a single piece of hail fell there.

Pharaoh called Moses. “I was wrong! Pray for it to stop!” Moses prayed, and the storm stopped. But once it was quiet again… Pharaoh hardened his heart one more time.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. God warned everyone before the hail. Who in your life warns you about things — like a hot stove, or looking before you cross? Why is it wise to listen?
  2. Some people listened to God's warning and some didn't. What helps you choose to listen, even when you don't feel like it?
  3. God kept His people completely safe in the storm. When have you felt safe even when things were scary all around?
