Exodus 10 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Locusts cover the land, and then a darkness so thick you could feel it — but God's people have light the whole time.

Today's Story

Pharaoh still would not listen. So God sent a wind, and the wind brought locusts — millions of hopping, munching bugs. They covered the ground until you couldn't see the dirt, and they ate every green leaf left in Egypt.

Pharaoh hurried to say, “I'm sorry! Pray for them to go!” Moses prayed, another wind blew the locusts away — and Pharaoh's heart went hard once more.

Then God reached out His hand, and a thick darkness fell over Egypt. Not regular nighttime dark — this was darkness you could almost feel. For three whole days, nobody in Egypt could see a thing. They couldn't even get up out of their chairs.

But here is the wonderful part. In the homes of God's people, the lamps were lit and the sun came through the windows. While all of Egypt sat in the dark, God's people had light right where they lived.

Even when everything around them was dark, God's people were not in the dark. Because God was with them.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. In all of Egypt's darkness, God's people still had light. When you feel scared of the dark, what helps you remember God is with you?
  2. A “dark” time can also mean a sad or hard time. When has God felt close to you during a hard time?
  3. How could you be a little bit of “light” for someone who is having a dark day?
