Sometimes God asked Ezekiel to ACT OUT a message instead of just saying it. Today he packs a bag and digs through a wall — right in front of everybody.
Today's Story
God's people had ears, but they were not really listening. So God gave Ezekiel a special way to get their attention. Instead of just telling them a message, Ezekiel would show them one.
“Pack a bag,” God said, “like someone who is moving far away. Do it in the daytime, where everyone can watch.”
So Ezekiel did. He rolled up his blanket. He gathered his things. He lifted his bag onto his shoulder, right out in the open. People stopped and stared. “What is he doing?”
Then, as the sky grew dark, Ezekiel dug a hole through the wall and carried his bag out through it, with his face covered. It was a picture — a living, moving picture — of the people one day having to leave their city.
The people had been saying, “Oh, God's messages are for someday far, far away. They will never really happen.” But God said, “No more waiting. What I say WILL come true. You can count on My word.”
God was not being mean. He was warning His people because He loved them and wanted them to turn back to Him while there was still time.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Ezekiel showed a message with his hands instead of just saying it. When is it easier for you to understand something if someone shows you instead of only telling you?
- The people kept saying “that will never really happen.” Why do you think it is sometimes hard to believe a warning until it comes true?
- God always keeps His word. What is one thing God says in the Bible that you are really glad will come true?
