God sees everything — even how people treat each other when they think no one is watching.
Today's Story
There was a land near God's people called Edom. It sat up on a tall, rocky mountain. The people who lived there were neighbors to God's people — almost like cousins.
But they were not kind neighbors. When God's people went through a hard time, Edom didn't feel sad for them. Instead, they cheered! They were happy to see someone else hurting. That is never the right way to act.
So God sent Ezekiel with a message. God said, “I saw what you did. I heard the mean words you said. You were glad when my people were sad. I do not let that go unnoticed.”
God always sees the whole story. He notices the ones who get picked on, and He notices the ones who laugh at them. God cares about being fair, and He stands up for the people who are hurting.
God wants us to be the opposite of those mean neighbors. When someone is sad, we don't laugh — we help. When someone falls down, we don't cheer — we reach out a hand.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- Has anyone ever laughed at you when you fell down or made a mistake? How did that feel?
- The people of Edom cheered when others were hurting. Why do you think that made God so sad?
- What is something kind you could do for someone who is having a hard day at school or at home?
