Ezekiel 36 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God's people had hearts that had grown hard and cold. So God made an amazing promise to give them something brand new.

Today's Story

Have you ever held a smooth rock in your hand? It's cold. It's hard. No matter how long you hold it, it never gets soft. It can't feel anything.

God said that His people's hearts had become like that — hard as a stone. They had stopped caring. They had forgotten how to love and listen. A stone heart can't feel love, and it can't give love either.

But God did not want to leave His people that way. So He made one of the most wonderful promises in the whole Bible.

God said, “I will wash you and make you clean, like fresh water washing away the dirt. I will take out your hard heart of stone. And I will give you a brand-new heart, a soft heart, a heart that loves. I will put my own Spirit inside you to help you.”

Isn't that amazing? God doesn't just tell us to try harder. He does something only He can do — He reaches in and gives us a whole new heart. A heart that beats with love. A heart that wants to follow Him.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever felt grumpy or hard inside, like you didn't want to be kind to anyone? What does that feel like?
  2. God promised to swap out a hard heart for a soft one. Why do you think only God can do that — not us by trying harder?
  3. A soft heart is one that loves and listens. What is one soft-hearted thing you could do for someone in your family today?
