The people are busy building God's house. But not everyone is happy about it.
Today's Story
God's people were working hard, building His house stone by stone. It was going so well!
But some people who lived nearby did not want the temple to be built at all. First they tried to sneak in by being tricky. “Let us help you build,” they said with smiles. But they did not really want to help — they wanted to get in the way. So the leaders kindly said, “No, thank you. God told us to build this.”
That made those people grumpy. So they tried something else. They started saying mean, scary things to make the builders feel worried and tired. They wanted everyone to give up.
Then they did one more thing. They wrote a long complaining letter to the king who was far away. “Make them stop building!” the letter said.
And for a little while, the building did stop. The tools went quiet. It must have felt so discouraging.
But this was not the end of the story. God was still watching, and God had not changed His mind. The good work would start again.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Has anything ever felt too hard, like you wanted to quit? What was it?
- The builders heard mean words that made them feel like stopping. What are some kind words we can say to help someone keep going?
- God did not give up on His house, even when it got hard. How does it help to know God never gives up on us?
