Abraham sends his servant on a long journey to find a wife for Isaac. The servant doesn't know where to start — so he prays. And God answers in the kindest way.
Today's Story
Abraham was getting very old, and he wanted his son Isaac to have a good wife from among their own people. So he sent his most trusted servant on a long journey back to the land of his relatives.
The servant traveled far, with ten camels, and stopped at a well outside a town in the evening, when the women came to get water. He didn't know what to do — so he prayed. “Lord, God of my master Abraham, please help me today. When I ask a girl for a drink, let the right one say, ‘Drink — and I'll water your camels too.’ Then I'll know she's the one You've chosen.”
He had barely finished praying when a kind young woman named Rebekah came to the well with her jar. The servant asked, “May I have a little drink?” “Of course!” she said. “Drink — and I'll get water for your camels too!” And she ran back and forth, drawing water until all ten thirsty camels had drunk their fill. (That's a LOT of water — camels drink buckets and buckets!)
The servant could hardly believe it. God had answered his prayer, word for word! Rebekah was kind, generous, and hardworking — just the heart he had prayed for. He bowed and thanked God right there.
Rebekah's family agreed, and she bravely chose to go. When Isaac saw Rebekah coming, his heart was glad, and they were married. And Isaac loved her.
God had heard one quiet prayer at a well — and answered it with kindness.
