Hebrews is a long letter someone wrote to help God's family keep loving Jesus and never give up.
Today's Story
Imagine you started learning to ride a bike. You wobbled. You fell. But you kept getting back up — and soon you were riding all by yourself!
The person who wrote this letter says something a lot like that. He tells God's family, “Let's keep growing up! Let's not stop now.” When we first follow Jesus, we learn the simple things. But God wants us to keep going, the way a little seed keeps growing into a big, strong tree.
Then he says something wonderful. When God makes a promise, He always keeps it. God cannot lie. Not ever. So when God says, “I will help you. I will never leave you,” you can hold on tight to those words.
The letter calls this hope an anchor. An anchor is a heavy hook that keeps a boat from drifting away, even when the waves are big and bumpy. Our hope in God holds us steady like that. Big waves come — sad days, scary days — but we do not float away. We are held.
And what is our anchor hooked to? Jesus. He went ahead of us, straight to His Father, and He is holding the other end.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When you feel wobbly or scared, who do you go to for help?
- God always keeps His promises. Why is it good that He can never, ever break one?
- An anchor holds a boat steady in big waves. What “big waves” might come in a kid's week — and how can holding on to God help?
