Hosea 7 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

God's people were in trouble and needed help. But they kept looking in all the wrong places — and missing the One who could really help them.

Today's Story

God watched His people, and He noticed something that made Him a little sad.

Whenever trouble came, they ran around looking for help. They asked this friend. They asked that one. They tried this idea and that idea. They flew here and flew there, like a little dove flapping in circles with no plan at all.

“They are like a silly dove,” God said. “They flutter everywhere — but they will not come to Me.”

And that was the part that made God sad. He was right there! He was strong enough to help with anything. He loved them more than anyone. All they had to do was call out to Him from their hearts — and they kept forgetting to.

It was a bit like a child who is thirsty and runs all over the house looking for a drink, when a grown-up who loves them is standing right there saying, “Sweetheart, just ask me. I have exactly what you need.”

God still loved His silly, flapping people. He wanted them to stop, and turn, and simply say, “God, please help me.” That is a prayer He always loves to answer.

Talk About It

  1. When something goes wrong in your day, what is the very first thing you do?
  2. God's people looked everywhere for help except to Him. Why do you think it is sometimes hard to remember to ask God?
  3. What is something you could ask God to help you with today?
