The prophet Isaiah shares two pictures: God bringing His tired people home, and a proud king who learns that no one can climb above God.
Today's Story
God's people had been far from home and very tired. So God made them a warm promise through the prophet Isaiah.
“I will be gentle with My people,” God said. “I will choose them again and bring them back to their own land. I will give them rest from all their sadness and all their hard, hard days.”
Can you imagine how good that sounded? After being away so long, they would finally get to go home and rest. God had not forgotten them at all.
Then Isaiah told about a king who had ruled over them - a king who had grown so proud he thought he could climb higher than the stars and even sit above God Himself. He bragged, “I will go up. I will be the greatest!”
But no one can climb above God. The proud king who tried to lift himself up came right back down. It turned out he was just a person after all, the same as everybody else.
Isaiah wanted the people to remember the difference. God lifts up the gentle and the tired and brings them home. And the proud who try to push past God always come back down. God is the only One who is truly above all.
