The prophet Isaiah brings a sad message about a land called Moab. What is surprising is how much God's own heart aches for them.
Today's Story
Right next to God's people lived their neighbors in a land called Moab.
God gave the prophet Isaiah a message about Moab, and it was a sad one. Hard days were coming for that land. The people of Moab were going to be very upset. They cried out loud in their towns. They wept on the rooftops. Tears ran down their faces in the streets.
Now here is the part that might surprise you. Moab was not God's own special people. They were the neighbors. And yet, when Isaiah described all this crying, you can hear that God's own heart was sad too. He said it was like His insides were aching for Moab.
God does not enjoy seeing anybody sad - not even a faraway land that was not close to Him. He notices every tear, everywhere, in every country.
That tells us something gentle and big about God: His care reaches farther than we think. There is no place too far, and no person too far away, for God to feel for them.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- When was a time you saw someone crying? What did your heart want to do?
- God felt sad for people who lived far away and were not even close to Him. What does that show you about how big God's love is?
- Who is someone you know who is sad right now? How could you show them you care this week?
