Isaiah 17 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

God gave the prophet Isaiah a message for some big, busy cities that had forgotten the One who made them.

Today's Story

In Isaiah's day there was a strong, proud city called Damascus. Its people felt very safe. They had thick walls, busy markets, and plenty of food. They thought they would always be fine, all by themselves.

But they had forgotten Someone. They had stopped looking to God, the One who made them and gave them every good thing.

So God gave Isaiah a gentle, sad message to share. He said the things people felt so safe about would not last forever. “They will fade,” Isaiah said, like grass that turns brown, or like the very last apples left at the top of the tree after harvest.

It was God's loving way of saying: please don't lean only on yourselves. There is Someone so much bigger and stronger who loves you.

And then came the most beautiful part. Isaiah said a day was coming when people would stop staring at the things their own hands had built. “In that day,” he said, “people will look to their Maker.” They would turn their eyes back up to God - the One who had loved them all along.

  2. The people of Damascus trusted their big walls instead of God. What are some things people think will keep them safe, but really can't?
  3. Isaiah said God is our Maker. What is one thing you love about the way God made you?
