Isaiah 18 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

God gave Isaiah a message about a faraway land - and a beautiful picture of how calm and patient God really is.

Today's Story

Far away from where Isaiah lived, past wide rivers, there was a land Isaiah called “a land of whirring wings” - maybe because of all the buzzing insects, or the boats with sails like wings on the water.

The people there were tall and strong, and they sent speedy messengers zipping across the rivers in fast little reed boats. Everyone was rushing and busy, trying to figure out what would happen next in the world.

But God was not rushing at all. Isaiah shared the most peaceful picture of God you can imagine. God said, “I will stay quiet, and I will watch from My home.”

He was like the warm sun shining gently on a summer day, or the soft cloud of dew that settles in the cool of the morning. Calm. Steady. Watching everything, in no hurry at all, because He had it all under control.

And Isaiah said that one day, people from that faraway land would bring gifts to God to thank Him. People who lived so very far away would come to know how good He is.

Talk About It

  1. When does your day feel busy and rushed? How does it feel to know God is calm and watching over you, even then?
  2. Isaiah said God watches over everything quietly, in no hurry. What is something you are waiting for that is hard to wait for?
  3. People from a faraway land would one day bring gifts to thank God. What is a gift you could give God - like a song, a thank-you, or a kind act?
