Isaiah 20 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

God asked Isaiah to do something very unusual - to act out a message with his whole self, so the people would understand.

Today's Story

Sometimes God asked Isaiah to do surprising things so people would really pay attention. This was one of those times.

The people of Isaiah's land were scared. A strong army was coming. So they started making plans to ask the big, powerful country of Egypt to come and save them. They were sure Egypt was the answer.

But God knew Egypt couldn't really keep them safe. Only He could. So God gave Isaiah a living “picture” to show them.

God said, “Isaiah, take off your fancy prophet's coat and your sandals.” And Isaiah did. He walked around in simple clothes, with bare feet, for a long, long time.

Everyone noticed. “Why is Isaiah walking like that?” they asked. And that was the whole point. It was a picture that said: the help you're running to is not as strong as you think. Don't put your hope in Egypt.

God was teaching them - in a way they couldn't forget - to trust Him instead of running to powerful people to save them.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. When you feel scared, who or what do you want to run to? How could you ask God for help too?
  2. God's people thought a big, strong country would keep them safe. Why is God a better One to trust than even the biggest, strongest thing?
  3. Isaiah obeyed God even when it felt strange and people stared. When is it hard for you to do the right thing if it might look unusual?
