The prophet Isaiah shared a gentle message from God about something God cares about very much: our hearts.
Today's Story
God noticed something a little sad about His people. They said all the right words to Him. They sang the songs. They bowed their heads. But on the inside, many of them weren't really thinking about God at all.
So God spoke to them, gently. “These people honor Me with their mouths,” He said, “but their hearts are far away from Me.”
It's a bit like saying “I love you” to someone while you're staring at a screen and not even looking at them. The words come out - but your heart isn't really in it.
God doesn't want just our words. He wants us. He wants to be our real friend, on the inside, where it counts.
Then Isaiah shared a beautiful promise. A day was coming, he said, when God would do wonderful things. People whose ears couldn't hear would hear. People whose eyes couldn't see would see. And those who felt small and sad would be filled up with fresh joy, glad and happy in God again.
God wasn't giving up on His people. He was inviting them close - not just their mouths, but their whole hearts.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Has anyone ever said something to you while they weren't really paying attention? How did that feel?
- God said some people honored Him with their mouths, but their hearts were far away. What do you think it looks like to love God with your whole heart, not just your words?
- Isaiah promised God would fill sad and humble people with fresh joy. When is a time you felt truly glad and happy?
