When the people were afraid, they had to choose: trust strong-looking things that can fail, or trust the God who never fails.
Today's Story
God's people were worried about an enemy. So some of them came up with a plan: let's go ask the country of Egypt for help! Egypt had lots of horses and shiny war-chariots. They looked so strong.
But God sent Isaiah with a reminder. “The Egyptians are only people,” he said. “They are not God. Their horses are only horses.” Horses can get tired. Chariots can break. People can let you down. Only God never, ever fails.
Then Isaiah painted a beautiful picture of how God protects the people He loves.
Have you ever watched a mother bird flying around her nest? If anything comes near her babies, she swoops and circles and spreads her wings to keep them safe. She won't leave them.
“That's how the Lord will watch over His city,” Isaiah said. “Like birds flying over their nest. He will shield it and save it.”
God didn't need Egypt's horses. He is stronger than any army. And He covers the people He loves with His own care, the way a bird covers her nest.

Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When you feel scared, what makes you feel safe again - a hug, a grown-up, a favorite blanket?
- The people wanted to trust Egypt's horses and chariots because they looked strong. What are some things people trust today that can still let them down?
- Isaiah said God protects His people like a bird spreading her wings over the nest. How does that picture help you feel safe with God?
