Now we meet a real king named Hezekiah. A big army came to his city, and a loud enemy tried to scare everyone into giving up on God.
Today's Story
King Hezekiah loved God. But one day a huge, powerful army marched up to his city, Jerusalem. The enemy sent a man to stand outside the city wall and shout up at the people.
This man was like a bully. He yelled mean, scary things as loud as he could. “Who are you even trusting?” he shouted. “Do you think your God can save you? Don't believe King Hezekiah! Just give up and come with us!”
He wanted the people on the wall to get scared and stop trusting God. He talked and talked, trying to make them afraid.
So what did the people do? Here is the surprising part. They did not yell back. They did not argue. The Bible says, “The people stayed quiet. They did not answer him with even one word.” King Hezekiah had told them not to. They knew that arguing with the bully was not the way to win.
Instead, the king's helpers went straight to Hezekiah and told him every scary thing the man had said. They were going to take the whole problem to God. And that - as we will see next - was exactly the right thing to do.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Has anyone ever tried to scare you or tease you about something? What did you do?
- The people stayed quiet instead of arguing with the bully, and they took the problem to God. Why do you think staying calm was a smart and brave choice?
- When something feels too big and scary to handle, who can you tell? What would it look like to “take it to God” in a prayer?
