Isaiah 37 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

A huge army was bullying God's city, and the king got a scary letter. Watch what he does with it - it's the best idea in the whole story.

Today's Story

King Hezekiah was having the worst day. A giant army had marched up to the city of Jerusalem. Their leader sent loud, mean messages: “Your God can't save you! Nobody can stop us! Just give up!”

Then a letter came with all the same bragging written down. Hezekiah read it. His heart pounded.

So Hezekiah did something wonderful. He took the scary letter, walked into God's house, and spread it open right there in front of God. He didn't hide it. He showed God the whole thing.

“Lord,” he prayed, “You made the sky and the earth. You are the only true God. Please look at this letter. Please save us - so everyone will know that You alone are God.”

God heard him. He sent word through the prophet Isaiah: “Don't be afraid. That big army will not even shoot one arrow into this city. I will protect it.”

And that very night, God took care of it. By morning the danger was gone. The giant army packed up and went home. The city was safe.

Hezekiah brought his biggest worry to God - and God was bigger than the army.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Hezekiah got a scary letter and took it straight to God. What is one thing that worries you right now that you could tell God about today?
  2. Instead of hiding the letter, Hezekiah spread it out in front of God. Why do you think it helps to tell God the WHOLE thing, even the parts that scare us?
  3. God was bigger than a giant army. What does that tell you about how big God is compared to your biggest worry?
