Isaiah 38 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

King Hezekiah got very sick. So he prayed - and God did something kind, and even gave him a sign in the sky.

Today's Story

King Hezekiah got very sick. He was so sick that he turned his face to the wall and began to cry.

But he didn't cry alone. He prayed: “Lord, please remember me. I have tried to follow You with my whole heart.” And the tears rolled down.

God saw every tear. He sent the prophet Isaiah back with good news: “I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. I am going to make you well - and I will give you fifteen more years.”

Fifteen more years! Hezekiah could hardly believe it. So God gave him a sign he could see with his own eyes. There was a stairway where a shadow moved along the steps as the sun crossed the sky. God made that shadow go backward - ten whole steps back up the stairs.

When Hezekiah got well, he made up a happy song. “You loved me,” he sang to God, “and You kept me safe. I will praise You as long as I live.”

God had been listening the whole time.
