Some visitors came to see King Hezekiah, and he showed them everything he owned. The prophet Isaiah had a gentle word for him about what really matters.
Today's Story
One day visitors came all the way from a faraway land called Babylon. They brought letters and a gift for King Hezekiah, because they had heard he had been very sick and gotten well.
Hezekiah was so excited to have important guests. He wanted to show them everything. So he gave them the grand tour. Look at my silver! Look at my gold! Look at my fancy oils and my shiny weapons! He opened every room and every cupboard. He didn't leave out a single treasure.
But here's the thing - he showed off all his stuff, and he never once told the visitors about the God who had made him well.
Then the prophet Isaiah came by. Gently he said, “Hezekiah, one day all these treasures you're so proud of will be carried away. Things won't last forever.”
It was a kind reminder. Treasures are nice, but they don't last. The God who loves us and hears us - He lasts forever. He's the very best thing we have to show.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- If a special guest came to your house, what is the first thing you would want to show them?
- Hezekiah showed off his stuff but forgot to talk about God. What is one good thing about God you could tell a friend?
- Toys and treasures wear out one day, but God lasts forever. What makes God the best treasure of all?
