Isaiah 44 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Isaiah the prophet kept reminding people of one big truth: there is only one real God, and He is the one who made everything.

Today's Story

God had good news for His people, and Isaiah got to share it.

“Don't be afraid,” God said. “I made you, and I will help you. I am going to pour water on the thirsty ground. I will pour my Spirit out on your children, and they will grow like green trees by a stream.”

Then God said something only He can say: “I am the first and the last. There is no other God but me. I made the whole sky and the whole earth. Who is like me? No one!”

Then Isaiah explained something a little silly that some people were doing. A person would chop down a tree. With half of the wood, he made a cozy fire and cooked his dinner and got warm. Then - with the other half - he carved a little statue, bowed down to it, and said, “Please save me!”

But a piece of wood can't see. It can't hear. It can't help anybody. How could it save you? The real God is alive! He made the trees in the first place.

Then God said the warmest thing of all. “Come back to me. I have swept your mistakes away like the wind blows away a cloud. There is nothing left! I have set you free. Come home.”

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. The man bowed down to a piece of wood that couldn't help him at all. What are some things people today might love more than God - like toys, games, or money?
  2. God said He swept the people's mistakes away like the wind blows a cloud out of the sky. How does it feel to know God can take away the wrong things you've done?
  3. God promised to pour water on thirsty ground. When do you feel “thirsty” for God's help - tired, grumpy, or sad? What could you do then?
