Isaiah the prophet had a message from God for people who were scared and far from home. It was a message of comfort.
Today's Story
God's people were afraid. They had made a lot of mistakes, and now they were living far away from home. They wondered if God had forgotten all about them.
He had not. God told Isaiah exactly what to say to them, and the words were warm and close, like a hug.
“Don't be afraid,” God said. “I made you. I am the one who saves you. I have called you by your name. You are mine.”
Then God made an amazing promise. “When you walk through deep water, I will be right there with you. When you cross the rivers, they will not sweep you away. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned. The flames will not hurt you.”
God wasn't saying there would never be deep water or scary fire. He was saying something even better: I will be with you in it.
“You are precious to me,” God said. “I love you. So do not be afraid, because I am with you.”
And God told them something to look forward to. “I am about to do a brand-new thing!” He said. “Can't you see it starting? I will even make a road in the desert and rivers in the dry land.”
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- What is something that scares you a little - the dark, deep water, being away from home? How does it help to know God promises to be with you in it?
- God says He has called you by name and you belong to Him. How does it feel to know God knows your name?
- God promised to do a “brand-new thing.” What is something new you are hoping for?
