Isaiah 42 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Isaiah was a prophet - a messenger who told people what God wanted them to know. In this chapter God promises someone gentle and kind who is coming to help.

Today's Story

God had a beautiful promise to share. So He gave the words to Isaiah, and Isaiah told the people.

“Look!” God said. “Here is my servant. I am holding onto him. I am so pleased with him. I have put my Spirit on him, and he will bring what is right and fair to the whole world.”

But here was the surprising part. This helper would not come stomping and shouting. “He will not yell in the streets,” God said. “If a little plant is bent and almost broken, he will not snap it. If a candle is barely glowing, he will not blow it out. He will be gentle. And he will not give up until everything is made right.”

God reminded the people that He is the one who made the sky and stretched it out, the one who made the earth and everything that walks on it. He gives breath to every living thing.

“I will hold your hand,” God promised His helper. “I will make you a light, so people who are sitting in the dark can finally see.”

Then Isaiah could hardly hold it in. “Sing!” he said. “Sing a brand-new song to God! Let the whole world sing - the sea, the islands, the deserts, the mountains. Give God the praise He deserves!”

Talk About It

  1. When have you felt a little bit like that bent plant or that flickering candle - tired, sad, or worn out? How does it feel to know God's Helper would be careful with you?
  2. God said His Helper would be a light for people sitting in the dark. Who do you know that needs some light and kindness right now?
  3. What is a brand-new song or cheer you could make up to thank God today?
