Isaiah the prophet showed people a funny, important difference: some “gods” have to be carried - but the real God is the one who carries us.
Today's Story
Isaiah pointed to something people did in faraway cities. They made statues out of wood and metal and called them their gods. But when it was time to move, guess what? Somebody had to pick the statues up and load them onto donkeys and camels.
The poor animals groaned under the heavy load. The statues couldn't walk. They couldn't help. They couldn't even hold themselves up! People had to carry them everywhere.
Then God said something wonderful about Himself. “Listen to me,” He said. “I am not like those statues. You don't carry me - I carry you!”
“I have carried you since the day you were born,” God said. “And I will keep on carrying you. Even when you are old and your hair turns gray, I will still be the one holding you up. I made you, and I will carry you, and I will keep you safe.”
What a difference! A pretend god is just something heavy you have to lug around. But the real God scoops you up in His arms and carries you your whole life long - like a strong, loving parent who never, ever gets tired.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Has a grown-up ever carried you when you were too tired to walk? How did that feel? That's a little picture of how God carries you.
- The pretend gods couldn't even hold themselves up. How is the real God totally different?
- God promised to carry you even when you are very, very old. What is one hard thing you can ask God to help carry you through this week?
