After a long, dark night, the sun finally comes up. That is exactly the picture God paints in this chapter - and the light is Him.
Today's Story
Imagine the longest, darkest night. You're waiting and waiting for morning. Then - at last - the sky starts to glow, and the sun peeks over the hills.
That is the message God gave Isaiah for His tired, sad people. “Get up! Shine! Your light has come! The brightness of God is rising on you like a sunrise!”
God said the dark times were ending. His light was shining on His people so bright that everyone could see it from far away. People came from every direction - walking, riding camels, sailing ships - all coming toward the light. They brought gifts of gold and sweet-smelling spices and big happy smiles.
And here is the most wonderful part. God said, “You won't even need the sun anymore. I will be your light. I will shine on you forever, and your light will never, ever go out.”
No more dark. No more sad. Just God's warm, bright light shining on His people, all day and all night, forever.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When you wake up in the morning and the sun is shining, how does it make you feel? God says His light is even better than the morning sun.
- Isaiah says people came from far away just because they saw the light. What do you think made them want to come?
- God promised His light would never go out - not ever. When you have a dark or sad day, how does it help to remember God's light is still shining?
