Isaiah kept on praying to God for his people. In this part he prays a prayer that asks God to come close and help.
Today's Story
Isaiah was praying. He missed feeling close to God, and he wanted God to come near again.
“Oh, that You would come down!” Isaiah prayed. He remembered that God can do amazing things - things no one else can do. “No one has ever seen a God like You,” he said, “who helps the people who wait for Him.”
Isaiah knew his people had not always done the right thing. They had made mistakes. So he did not pretend. He just told God the truth and asked Him for help.
Then he prayed the most wonderful words. He said, “Lord, You are our Father. We are the clay, and You are the potter. We are all made by Your hand.”
Think about that. A potter takes a soft lump of clay and gently shapes it into something good with his own two hands. Isaiah was saying: that is us, and that is God. We belong to Him. He is making us into something good.
“Please don't be far away,” Isaiah prayed. “Look at us. We are all Your people.” And he trusted that the God who made him was listening.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Have you ever made something with play dough or clay or mud? What did you shape it into?
- Isaiah said God is like a potter who shapes us. What is one good thing God might be helping you grow into - kinder, braver, more patient?
- Isaiah told God the truth, even about his mistakes. Why is it good to talk to God honestly instead of hiding?
