Long ago, some people made little statues and treated them like they were gods. Jeremiah wanted everyone to know there is only one real God — the one who made everything.
Today's Story
The people who lived around God's people had a strange habit. They would cut down a tree, carve it into a little statue, paint it with gold and silver, and then bow down to it like it could help them.
Jeremiah shook his head. “Think about it,” he said. “A statue can't see you. It can't hear you. It can't walk — someone has to carry it! It can't help you at all. It's like a scarecrow standing in a garden.”
Then Jeremiah talked about the real God. “Our God is alive! He made the whole earth. He sends the rain. He sends the wind from His storehouses. He set every star in the sky. There is no one anywhere like Him.”
A pretend god made of wood can do nothing. But the real God is big and strong and alive — and He loves you and listens every time you talk to Him.
