Jeremiah was a messenger for God. God gave him words to say to the people, even when the words were hard.
Today's Story
God spoke to Jeremiah and said, “Go and remind My people of the promise we made together a long time ago.”
Here was the promise. God had said, “Listen to Me, and walk in My ways, and you will be My people, and I will be your God.” It was a beautiful promise. It meant they belonged to each other.
But the people had stopped listening. Little by little, they had wandered off. They started loving other things more than God — pretend gods made of wood and stone that could not see or hear or help them at all.
So God sent Jeremiah to say, “Come back! Remember what I told you. I have always kept My word to you. I led you out of trouble. I gave you a good land. I have only ever wanted what is best for you.”
Jeremiah loved his people, and it made him sad to see them walk away from the God who loved them so much. He kept calling them home, again and again, because that is what a true friend does.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Has anyone ever made you a promise and kept it? How did that feel?
- God's people forgot to listen to Him. What helps you remember to listen to people who love you?
- God kept calling His people back, even when they wandered off. Why do you think He never gave up on them?
