God's people were living far from home, in a faraway land, and they were sad. So God sent them a letter — a letter full of hope.
Today's Story
God's people were a long, long way from home. They lived in a city called Babylon, and it was not where they wanted to be. They missed their houses. They missed their gardens. They felt sad and far away.
So God did something kind. He told Jeremiah to write the people a letter. And here is what the letter said:
“Build houses and live in them. Plant gardens and eat what grows. Make this place a home for now. And do something surprising — pray for the city you are living in, and be good to the people there.”
Then came the best part of the whole letter. God said, “I have not forgotten you. I know exactly what I am doing. I have good plans for you — plans to give you hope and a happy future. One day I will bring you home.”
“When you look for me, you will find me,” God said. “Talk to me, and I will listen.”
The people read the letter and felt their sad hearts grow warm. They were far away — but they were not forgotten. God had good plans for them all along.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Have you ever been somewhere you really did not want to be — a new school, a long car ride, a place far from home? How did you feel?
- God told the people to be kind to the city they were in, even though they wished they were somewhere else. How can you be kind right where you are today?
- God says He has good plans for you. What is one good thing you hope God has waiting in your future?
