Jeremiah 32 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Jeremiah does something that looks a little surprising: he buys a field at the hardest possible time — all because he trusts a promise God made.

Today's Story

Times were hard in the city. Enemies had come, and Jeremiah himself was shut up in a guarded place because he kept telling people God's messages. It was not a day anybody felt like buying anything.

Then God told Jeremiah something surprising. “Your cousin is coming. He is going to ask you to buy his field. Go ahead and buy it.”

Sure enough, Jeremiah's cousin came. “Will you buy my field?” he asked.

Now, that might sound silly. Why buy a field when enemies are all around? But Jeremiah trusted God. So he weighed out the silver, signed the papers, and made it official. He even put the papers in a clay jar to keep them safe for a long, long time.

Why did he do it? Because God had promised: “One day My people will come back home. They will plant gardens and buy fields and sell them again. This sad time will not last forever.” Buying that field was Jeremiah's way of saying, “I believe You, God.”

Then Jeremiah prayed the most wonderful prayer. He looked up and said, “Oh Lord, You made the sky and the earth. Nothing is too hard for You!” And it was true. Bringing the people home would be easy for the God who made everything.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Buying a field looked silly to some people, but Jeremiah did it because he trusted God. When is a time you did the right thing even though it looked unusual to others?
  2. Jeremiah prayed, “Nothing is too hard for You.” What is something that feels too big or too hard for you? How does it feel to know it is not too hard for God?
  3. Jeremiah kept the papers safe in a jar for the future. What is a hope you are holding onto for a good thing that hasn't happened yet?
