God's people had stopped listening to Him. In this message, God reminds them just how great and powerful He really is — even the ocean does what He says.
Today's Story
God was sad. His people had stopped listening to Him. They had ears, but they weren't really hearing. They had eyes, but they weren't really looking.
So God asked them a question to help them remember who He is. “Don't you respect Me?” He said. “Look at the sea!”
“I drew a line in the sand,” God said, “and I told the ocean, ‘This far — and no farther.’ And do you know what the great big ocean does? It obeys Me! The waves roll in. They crash and they roar. But when they reach that sandy line, they stop and roll right back. They cannot cross the line I made.”
Think about that! The whole, huge, powerful ocean listens to God. The waves do exactly what He says, every single day.
God wanted His people to remember: if the mighty sea listens to God, then He must be very, very great — and very worth listening to. He wasn't bragging. He was inviting them to trust Him again and turn their ears back to His voice.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When is it hard for you to listen — when you're playing, when you're tired, or when someone says something you don't want to hear?
- God said the ocean obeys Him and stops at the sand. What is the biggest, most powerful thing you can think of that God made? Isn't it amazing it all listens to Him?
- If God is big enough for the ocean to obey, do you think we can trust Him with our worries? Why?
