Jeremiah was a man who loved God very much. God gave him sad messages to share, because the people had stopped listening. But even the sad messages were full of love.
Today's Story
God's people had wandered far away from Him. They were being unkind to each other and forgetting the good things God had taught them. So God gave Jeremiah a message to call out, like a warning bell ringing in the morning.
“Please stop and look,” Jeremiah told them. “If you keep going this way, you'll get hurt. Turn around while there is still time.”
But the people put their hands over their ears. They didn't want to hear it. When Jeremiah talked, they laughed and looked away.
That made Jeremiah sad. It made God sad too. God wasn't angry because He wanted to be mean. He was sad like a daddy whose child runs toward a busy road and won't come back.
Then God said something beautiful. “Stand where the roads cross. Look for the good old path — the one that has always been right. Walk on it. And you will find rest for your hearts.”
God was inviting them home. He always leaves the door open. He always points to the good way. All they had to do was choose it.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When has a grown-up warned you about something to keep you safe? How did you feel about it later?
- Why do you think the people covered their ears instead of listening? Is it ever hard for you to listen when someone tells you the right thing?
- God said the good path gives our hearts rest. What do you think it feels like inside when you choose to do the right thing?
