God sent Jeremiah to stand at the door of His house with an important message about what really matters to God.
Today's Story
God told Jeremiah, “Go stand at the gate of My house. Wait for the people to come, and give them My message.”
So Jeremiah stood there. People streamed past him to go pray and sing. They felt very proud. “We come to God's house!” they said. “So everything must be fine.”
But God saw their hearts. Outside the house they were being unkind. They told lies. They walked right past people who were hungry and sad and didn't help.
So God gave them a gentle, important truth. “Singing the right songs is not enough. I don't just want your words. I want you. Be fair. Be kind. Take care of the people who need help. Then your worship will be real.”
God wasn't saying coming to His house was bad. He loves when we come to Him! He was saying our outsides and our insides should match. When we love God, it shows in how we treat other people all week long.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Has anyone ever said sorry to you without really meaning it? How could you tell? How is that different from a sorry that's real?
- God wanted His people to help others who were hungry or sad. Who is someone you could be kind to this week?
- What is one way you can show God you love Him — not just with words, but with what you do?
