Jeremiah was a prophet — a person who told the people what God wanted them to hear. God loved His people so much, and He wanted them to come home to Him.
Today's Story
Jeremiah looked at God's people and felt sad. They kept walking the wrong way. When they made a mistake, instead of turning around and coming back to God, they just kept going.
God said something that helps you picture it. He said, “Look at the birds in the sky. The stork knows when it is time to fly home. The little birds know when to come back. But My people have forgotten the way home to Me.”
It was like the people had a path right back to God, but they covered their eyes and ran past it. Some of them even thought they were being clever and wise on their own. But true wisdom comes from listening to God.
Jeremiah's heart hurt for them. He wished they would just stop, look around, and say, “Wait — I want to go back to God.” God was waiting with open arms the whole time. He always is.
