Job's third friend, Zophar, took a turn to speak. Like the others, he did not get everything right — but he did say something hopeful.
Today's Story
Job's friend Zophar spoke next. And honestly, Zophar was a little too hard on Job. He thought Job must have done something wrong — but that was not true. Job had not.
So when friends tell you something that is not kind or not true, you do not have to believe it. You can hold on to what God says instead.
But Zophar also said something lovely, something worth remembering. “Job, reach out your hands to God,” he said.
“If you turn toward God, there is hope for you. Your dark, sad time will not last forever. One day your life will shine bright again, like the sunshine in the morning. You will feel safe. You will not be afraid anymore.”
That part was beautiful and true. No matter how dark a night feels, morning always comes. And reaching out to God is always, always the right thing to do.
So even when a hard time feels long, you can lift your hands to God and remember: there is hope, and morning is coming.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- Zophar said dark times do not last forever and morning comes. When have you felt happy again after something hard or sad?
- Zophar said some things that were not kind or true. What can you do when someone tells you something that does not match what God says?
- What does it mean to “reach out to God”? How could you do that today?
