Job is still having a hard time. In Job 14, he stops to think out loud about how short life can feel — and he reaches for hope.
Today's Story
Job sat and thought about life.
“People are here for such a short time,” he said quietly. “We are like a flower that blooms in the morning and is gone by evening. We are like a shadow that doesn't stay.”
It made Job feel small. But then he looked at a tree, and an idea gave him hope.
“Look at a tree,” Job said. “Even if you cut it down, there is still hope for it. The old stump can smell water and sprout fresh green branches again. New life comes right back!”
Job wished his hard days could be like that — like a tree that looks finished but grows again.
And under all his sad thinking was a tiny, strong hope: that God had not forgotten him. God still knew his name. God still cared. Even on the hardest day, Job was not alone.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Job looked at a tree and it gave him hope. What is something in nature — like a flower, a sunrise, or a new leaf — that makes you feel happy or hopeful?
- A tree stump can look finished, but it grows again. Can you think of a time something looked sad or broken but then got better?
- Even on his hardest day, Job believed God had not forgotten him. How does it feel to know God always remembers you?
