Job 21 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Job's friends keep telling him that hard times only happen to people who did something bad. In Job 21, Job gently shows them it is not that simple.

Today's Story

Job took a deep breath and answered his friends. “Please,” he said, “just listen to me carefully. That would be a real comfort.”

His friends kept saying the same thing over and over: only bad people have hard lives, and only good people have happy ones. So they were sure Job had done something wrong.

But Job looked around at the real world. “That is not always how it goes,” he said. “Sometimes people who do wrong still have plenty. Sometimes their days seem easy. And sometimes good people, like me, have very hard days. The world is more of a mystery than you think.”

Job was saying something brave and true. We cannot always look at someone and know why their life is the way it is. We do not see the whole picture. Only God does.

So instead of guessing and judging, we can trust the One who truly understands everything — even the parts that puzzle us.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Has something ever happened that did not seem fair to you? What was it?
  2. Job said we cannot always tell why someone's life is the way it is. Why is it kinder not to guess about other people?
  3. There are things only God fully understands. What is something puzzling you could choose to trust God with?
