Job's friends keep saying his hard time must be his own fault. But Job knows that is not true, and he will not pretend it is.
Today's Story
Job's friends have a wrong idea. They think bad things only happen to bad people. So they keep telling Job, “You must have done something terrible. Just admit it!”
But Job did not do something terrible. And Job will not say he did, because that would be a lie.
So Job stands up tall, even though he is tired and sore, and he says it plainly.
“As surely as God is alive,” Job says, “I will always tell the truth. My lips will not say what is wrong. I will not agree that you are right, because you are not. I am going to keep my heart honest as long as I live.”
It would have been easier for Job to just go along with his friends to make them stop talking. But Job loves God too much to lie. He would rather tell the truth and stay close to God.
Even when it was hard, Job kept his heart clean and honest.
