Job is a good man who lost so much, and he and his friends keep asking, “Why do hard things happen?” In Job 31, Job finishes talking by looking back over his whole life.
Today's Story
Job had been through more sadness than almost anyone. But he could still look back over his life and say something brave.
“I tried to do what was right,” Job said, “even when nobody was watching me.”
He started counting up the ways. “When my workers needed something, I listened to them. When poor people were hungry, I shared my food. When someone had no warm coat, I made sure they had one.”
“I told the truth,” Job said. “I didn't trick anyone to get rich. I didn't cheer when someone who hated me had a bad day. I opened my door to travelers so they wouldn't have to sleep outside.”
Job wasn't bragging. He just wanted God to know that he had tried his very best to be kind and honest, all the days of his life.
And the wonderful part is this: even when everything went wrong, Job kept trying to do the right thing.

Talk About It
- Job did the right thing even when nobody was looking. When is it hardest for you to do the right thing when no one would see?
- Job shared food with the hungry and coats with the cold. Who is someone you could share with this week?
- Why do you think God cares about how we treat people, even people we will never see again?
